Adding a recipe
A recipe has a title (the only required field), an optional hero photo, description, servings, prep/cook time, difficulty (easy/medium/hard), source, cuisine, tags, and a video link, plus a list of ingredients (quantity, unit, name, note) and steps (text, with an optional photo per step). Uploaded photos are capped by the server’s image size limit — see Settings. Source, cuisine, tags, and the video link live under Additional details in the recipe form, collapsed by default.
Drag an ingredient or step by its handle to reorder it — handy after pasting in a list that needs shuffling, or realizing a step belongs earlier.
Ingredient sections
Split a long ingredient list into sections — “Cake”, “Filling”, “Frosting” — with Add section in the recipe form. A section is just a labeled divider; drag ingredients above or below it to move them in or out. Pasting a list (“Paste list”) also picks sections up automatically: a line with no quantity that ends in a colon, like “For the filling:”, is read as a section header rather than an ingredient.
Video
Paste a link — a YouTube video embeds right in the recipe’s detail view; any other link shows as a “Watch the video” button instead. It’s an optional field you can add, change, or clear at any time from Edit, so a recipe you typed in by hand today can get a video attached later. A recipe with a video shows a small play icon on its thumbnail throughout the library. Importing directly from a YouTube URL sets this automatically — see Import from a URL.
A recipe with a YouTube video but no cover photo of its own shows the video’s thumbnail throughout the library instead of a blank placeholder — upload a cover photo from Edit at any point to take over from it.
Cooking
- The servings control scales every ingredient quantity up or down — whole numbers, simple fractions (“1/2”), and mixed numbers (“1 1/2”) scale cleanly; anything else is left as-is rather than mangled
- Turn on Settings → Library → Ingredient gram weights (admin only) to show an approximate gram weight next to convertible quantities, e.g. “1 cup flour (~120g)” — calculated offline from a built-in density table for common baking ingredients, so it’s not exact for everything
- Cook Mode — open a recipe and hit the chef’s-hat button for a full-screen, one-step-at-a-time view. Move between steps with the on-screen arrows, a swipe, or the ← / → keys; the ingredient list is one tap away, and the screen stays awake on browsers that support the Wake Lock API so it doesn’t dim mid-recipe
- Mark a recipe cooked to stamp it with today’s date and surface it under Recently Cooked
Organizing and finding a recipe
- Rate any recipe 1–5 stars, or favorite it
- Search by title from the search dialog
- Filter the Library, Favorites, or a collection by tag, cuisine, or difficulty from the Filters button next to Sort — picking more than one tag (or cuisine, or difficulty) broadens the results within that facet, while combining tag + cuisine + difficulty narrows across facets. Your filter choices are remembered per page
- On a shared install, a recipe’s detail panel shows Cooking Activity — which other profiles have cooked, rated, or favorited it
- Settings → Stats shows a quick overview of the install — recipe, collection, and profile counts, plus your own favorited, cooked, and average rating numbers

Duplicating a recipe
Duplicate from a recipe’s menu makes a copy — same photo, ingredients, and steps, titled “Original title (Copy)”. Use it as a starting point for a variant without touching the original. The copy starts fresh: no rating, favorite, or cooked status carried over.
Removing a recipe
Deleting a recipe is admin-only — see Profiles & Access.
