# Shopping List

1. **Add recipes to the list**

   From a recipe's menu (or a card's right-click menu), toggle "Add to
shopping list" — or add every recipe in a collection at once from the
   collection page.
2. **Adjust servings, if needed**

Each added recipe gets its own servings stepper on the Shopping List
page, scaling that recipe's ingredients the same way the recipe
   detail view does.
3. **Shop, checking things off as you go**

Check off items as you pick them up. Print the list, or clear it once
   the trip's done.

## How ingredients are combined

There's one shopping list per profile — not multiple named lists. When
two recipes call for the same ingredient, Recipery tries to merge them
into a single line:

- Ingredients are grouped by name (case-insensitive exact match — "onion"
and "green onion" stay separate lines)
- Quantities in the same unit are summed directly ("2 cups flour" + "1
cup flour" → "3 cups flour")
- Quantities in different units are summed too, when both convert to
grams via the same density table used for
  [ingredient gram weights](/features/library) — otherwise they're kept
as separate amounts on the same line rather than guessed at
- Non-numeric quantities ("a pinch") are preserved as-is

## What's not included

The shopping list is deliberately excluded from [data
exports](/api/settings#get-apiexport) — it's a working list for your
next grocery run, not part of the library itself.
